Personal Description:
I graduated summa cum laude from Yale University with a Bachelor's in Classics (Latin). A member of Phi Beta Kappa, I was awarded the George A. Schrader Humanities prize at graduation for my contribution to the cultural life of the college. I am fluent in French, have translated a novel from German, and studied Ancient Greek along with Latin at Yale. In addition, I am a professional classical and pop musician and an accomplished songwriter. My other interests include game design, philosophy, and gender.
Tutoring Experience:
I have worked extensively as a tutor, editor, and classroom teacher for the last four years. My one-on-one work with students has covered fields as varied as English prose, French grammar, math, and music. I have also helped many students prepare applications to U.S. universities, coaching them for the SAT and SAT II Literature tests and working with them to develop strong application essays. For the last two years, I have been teaching Latin and Classical Civilization teacher at a small Toronto private school.
Tutoring Approach:
I'm a friendly, empathetic tutor with a sincere passion for learning. I'm excited to help you learn challenging material and to show you how even the most complex concepts are based on the simple things you already know. Whether we're studying grammar, math, or music, you'll learn why the rules are what they are and how they all fit together. All of this happens in sessions that combine warmth and humour with a very high level of intellectual rigor.
