Hello! My name is Amanda and I am currently available to tutor online. I enjoy cooking, music, and soccer, and love animals, traveling, and reading.
Tutoring Experience:
I completed my undergrad degree in 2012, where I graduated with the highest marks in my Gender Studies program. Following that, I was a Teaching Assistant for 2 years (2012-14) at the University of Ottawa (Institute of Women's Studies). I received training relating to grading, and editing essays and assignments.
Further, I have experience living and working with people from various countries, many of whom spoke English as a second language, so I am able to help with conversational English skills as well.
I have also excelled at public speaking, going on to compete various times at the regional level, and winning a Lions Club Public Speaking competition. I am able to assist with speech writing and delivery, and memorization tips.
Finally, I have created and delivered trainings / workshops on the topics of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and issues relating to gender and sexuality. Additionally, I have active-listening, support work, and conflict mediation skills. If you would like more information or resources relating to these topics I can also assist you with that.
I currently tutor students in conversational English skills, assisting a TA with ESL, and am assisting a student applying to university.
Tutoring Approach:
Presently, I am available to help edit essays and assignments, or to discuss and clarify readings and concepts relating to Social Sciences, especially Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Diversity/ Equity Studies, and Global Development Studies. I am also able to help with English conversation skills and homework. I can meet online via Skype, Zoom, etc.
I will work with you to figure out what your goals are and how I can support you (eg. pronunciation, vocabulary building, essay editing, etc.). We can look at assignments/ materials, books, or chat. I can help with written assignments, emails, conversation skills, etc.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for your interest in teaching Markus ESL. He enjoyed going to your sessions and to do the assigned homework. You listend what his interest were and made it easier for him to study the language.
What I personally would have put more pressure on would be writing. He should have written some some text for you to correct his writing. I do know that he has a hard time to put something together if it is fiction. He can't do this in german, so I see how he could get problems, wenn he has to write something for a test. I suggested he could just write what he experienced in the last week, or on his first day back at work. There are many topics, where he could go more in detail. I mean what exceptional he noticed by yesterdays snowshoe trip etc.
I thought and even suggested, that he should write something in english and then we have it corrected by a friend of us. He doesn't like to ask friends (most mine) to do this. So, what would you think, if he would try to write half a page an take a picture of it (since handwritten) and you can print it out, correct it and send it back by WhatsApp and he can print it out. You tell him or me how much time it took for you to correct. Let's say possibly 15 minutes and I pay you online ahead for 4 times $20. Is that an idea?
All in all, we are very happy and so lucky that it turned out on your first try so well.
