Personal Description:
I have a Masters in Fine Arts from University of Victoria in Theatre directing, as well as an English undergraduate degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. In the past I founded my own theatre company, and worked in many production roles including director, producer, designer, and stage manager. This creative experience gives me dynamic problem solving skills and creative techniques for teaching. It's not hard to keep learning fun when you enjoy the content.
Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored students in various subjects, for more than a decade. I have also facilitated hands on training for theatre professionals. During my masters studies I was a teaching assistant for first year university students. I have extensive tutoring experience in English writing, and have privately tutored students at all levels of writing capabilities including English Second Language students.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to make the work enjoyable and effective by utilizing theatrical techniques and playfulness. As a director, I use creative methods to help actors do their job on stage, and this strategy is very useful for tutoring. I am clear and concise (even tough if need be) but understand that everyone learns differently and what works for one client may not be useful for another. I enjoy watching a client "click" into understanding the material or technique and will be dedicated to working with you until you get it.
