Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Alex! I am pursuing a degree in Health Sciences at Wilfrid Laurier University and am currently in my third year. I am passionate about learning and find joy in helping students learn and develop skills. I aspire to be a teacher in the future and I enjoy working with students. I am passionate about hockey, crocheting, and reading. I also enjoy being outdoors! Let's work together to make learning an enjoyable experience!

Tutoring Experience:

With my extensive experience in mentoring and leadership roles, I believe I can make a positive impact on the lives of students working as a tutor.

Over the past two years, I have worked as a Classroom Tutor with Trillium Lakelands District Schoolboard. During my time in this position, I helped students one-on-one and with small groups providing support in areas where more practice was needed to build skills. I have facilitated activities for small groups of students including math and reading groups. While my time focused on math and reading, I have experience tutoring in all areas of learning including science and social studies.

In addition to my tutoring experience, I have spent six summers as a supervisor at a day camp. I was responsible for overseeing other counsellors as well as looking after campers while they created summer memories! I had the privilege of creating an environment where campers could express themselves, learn life skills and grow.

Tutoring Approach:

I employ a personalized approach when tutoring students. Each student has unique needs and strengths that can be used to their advantage. By tailoring lessons to their individual requirements and promptly adjusting to new focus areas, I ensure that students receive targeted support for optimal progress. Student confidence is my main priority as I believe that students thrive when they have confidence in themselves! Additionally, I provide my students with an abundance of encouragement and motivation that resonates with each student and teach them according to their distinctive learning styles and skills.
