Information About Alejandro
Saanich tutorPersonal Description:
I am a PhD student in chemistry at University of Victoria, and I have developed a passion for teaching since I started tutoring people during high school and I truly believe that one of the most rewarding things is to see a student succeed through their class.
Other things about me, I am an extroverted person, that enjoys being outside and meeting up with friends. I love to read, play music and also a bit of composing.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a private tutor since high school, however I have been doing it in a more regular basis since my 2nd year of my undergrad degree, always having a number of students throughout the year and all of them being able to succeed with their course.
I have also been a marker and TA in the chemistry department since the 3rd year of my bachelors degree, and now throughout my graduate degree I have been able to keep doing so.
Tutoring Approach:
I have learn over the years that a teaching approach must be tailored to the specific student. I like to tackle my tutoring sessions, starting with the broad question on what are they having issues with, and use that as a starting point to give a refresher in the topic, before targeting worksheet or practice questions. I find that being able to guide the student through a question rather than giving them the answer has a tremendous repercussion in the student's results for in their classes, where they find themselves understanding and working through the question, being able to interpret them and answer them in their own words, understanding what they are writing and not just word by word repeating what their lecture notes or textbook says.
