Personal Description:
Alan graduated from the University of Waterloo in Honours Chemistry on the Dean's Honour List. During this time he was a teachers assistant for Professor Michael Chong. He worked as a chemist in the pharmaceutical industry for 3 years and then attended University of Toronto's Teachers College. He worked as a teacher for 30 years and retired in 2018. He has travelled around the world volunteering in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
Tutoring Experience:
Over 30 years of tutoring experience in High School Math, Science, Chemistry and Physics. Over his 30 years as a teacher, Alan has taught grades 9 - 12 high school mathematics, grade 9 and 10 science and grade 11 and 12 chemistry and physics. He taught each of these multiple times. Some of Alan's tutoring students were English as a second language (ESL). For example, Alan has tutored students that have recently arrived in Canada from China, Kenya, Japan and Afghanistan.
Tutoring Approach:
Alan uses a modern approach to learning Math and Science. He incorporates on-line simulations to help with understanding at a deeper level. For example, in grade 9 electricity circuit-building programs are used to understand the difference between series and parallel circuits.
