Personal Description:
I am a recent Bachelor of Science in Geology Undergraduate student, who graduated in 2018 from the University of Calgary. Since then, I have been working part-time as well as tutoring university students in the Department of Geosciences. I have a strong passion for school, and am currently studying for my LSAT exam to pursue a career in Law at the University of Calgary.
Tutoring Experience:
My tutoring experience goes back to middle school. I have always had an interest in helping others succeed, and sometimes they just need different tools understand a subject. I Started tutoring fellow classmates in my grade 8 math class and continued to do this during my academic career. Now that I am graduated from university, I continue to tutor and focus on the areas that I have expert knowledge in, which include the sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), math, english/proofreading, as well as test-preparation. Test-preparation can be a huge skill that is overlooked by students, and can be the reason why they are failing exams, not because they do not understand the course material.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is very linear. I take each subject, problem, area, question, task, etc… step by step, and help my students develop new skills that they need to succeed. I do not try to cover up old problems, instead I try to completely rid each student of that type of thinking and have them form new tools and skills through repetition. This could take longer for students to understand a subject, but will set up a path for success instead of a short term fix to "pass" a class.
