Personal Description:

Salvete omnes! Hello all! My name is Abby, and I am a Latin teacher. I am originally from California, but now I live in Canada. In October 2020 I received my M.A. degree in Classics, with an expertise in Latin language and literature. I also have particular interests in folklore and mythology, as well as linguistics and etymology. I am an avid reader, and I love telling and teaching through stories. I look forward to meeting you and sharing my love of the Latin language!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching and tutoring Latin for 4+ years, first during my M.A. program, where I taught both privately and to full classes, and up to now (I currently only tutor privately). My students come to me at all levels, from beginning to advanced, and at all ages, usually from middle school to adult.

Tutoring Approach:

I love to teach my students using stories from Greek and Roman mythology. This way, my students not only get to experience the Latin language in action, but they also get to learn a bit about ancient Greco-Roman culture. My students get to know the figures in mythology in great detail, and how they played their parts in ancient culture, and even how they are relevant now.
My students have not just learned the Latin language, but have also expanded their vocabulary in English and other languages, and have grasped English grammar more thoroughly.

Because my specialty is in Latin literature, especially Latin poetry, I have all of my advanced students translate poet that I translated as a student, such as: Virgil, Ovid, Catullus, and many more.
