Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Abigail, and I am currently applying to university while finishing up my CEGEP education in cinema-communicaiton, where I have focused quite a bit on essay writing, reading comprehension, media literacy and creative arts. I am a relaxed and positive person who has a passion for literature, filmmaking and digital arts like graphic design. I currently work as a part of the communications team for a non-profit independent art organization where I research and write about artists for our website, as well as creative digital collages for our app.

Tutoring Experience:

When I was in my final year of high school I tutored 6th grade students in english. The following year, during CEGEP, I taught yoga, mediation and stress management to students between 4th grade and 8th grade. additionally, during the summer of 2017, I was a junior counsellor at a summer camp for children aged 9-14, helping to teach them many activities such as yoga, soccer, art and photography. This taught me how to teach young people in an effective yet entertaining way. Since teaching yoga classes in 2019, I havent had much time to teach, however with much more free time, I would love to get back into it!

Tutoring Approach:

When it comes to teaching, I am reliable, supportive, calm and steady. I make sure to initially assess the students goals, and then play a role in helping them help themselves to achieve those goals. Additionally, I aim to help the students develop the skills they need become independent learners. Despite the current barriers of not being able to tutor face to face, I would like to emphasize my goal of making the students feel safe and connected to me. When it comes to english courses, I really like to work with outlines and multiple drafts to make sure the student is clear about what they are writing. I believe organization is really important when producing quality work. As for art, I have quite a bit of experience in many mediums, which comes in handy for most, if not all, elementary and high school art projects.
