Personal Description:

I started tutoring privately when I was at University in the late 1960s and have done so on and off ever since. My
CV is available on request. In July 2013 I came to Melbourne from New Zealand to be closer to my family who moved to Melbourne three years ago. I am retired. References on my website and I can provide NZ references on request. My pupils tend to return for more than one year so that reduces places. Please note that I may charge extra for travel. I now live in Gladstone Park. I may not have any free places left for 2018. Will update by late March when everything settles down.

Tuition Experience:

I have taught in secondary schools since 1973, although over the last ten years I ran a community education department at Takapuna Grammar school in New Zealand rather then teach. Over the years I have taught basic computing, English, and Maths to years 7 -13 students.Over the last six years one on one private tuition as been my sole work as I am retired and I do not want to take on large numbers of pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

All people are different and need to be treated according to their individual requirements. Usually I try to get the syllabus for the child's maths and follow along that pathway, keeping up with, and refining those areas in which the student needs further explanation and practice. Some people require more catch up help so that can be done too. I use a variety of resources, from text book to network worksheets to individually prepared worksheets depending on the needs of the student. To keep up with what is going on in school I try to get my students to contact me with anything they are having particular problems with so that I can have resources ready.
