Personal Description:

Hello,

My greatest achievement as a tutor has been helping students leap two grades up in one semester.

I have 6 years of tutoring experience, and a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe with First Class Honours in Sociology. I am driven and focused on assisting students with English, SOSE, and History so that they not only pass, but also learn skills and knowledge that will help them their whole lives.

In 2017, the best and most rewarding result, was taking a student that did not care for English or study, and helping him to ace his High School English exam with almost the highest mark. The student and their parents were very pleased.

With a focus on tuition in the areas of English, Sociology, History, Asian and cultural studies, in addition to these fields, my areas of expertise includes instruction in report and essay writing, and pushing the reading comprehension of his students with new and exciting texts. It is my belief that learning can be made into a truly enjoyable challenge.

I have thrown my total commitment into tutoring, and my tutoring business. My character and sense of humour works well with high school students.

Active in editing and tertiary level writing since 2007 I was fortunate to have assisted in the editing of an extensive academic bibliography: James Leibold’s (2007) On Reconfiguring Chinese Nationalism: How the Qing Frontier and its Indigenes Became Chinese. Securing Trevor for editing services is of course possible.

2017 was an excellent year. The tutoring business continues to grow.

Tutoring Career Summary

August 2013 — Current English Tutor: tutoring a VCE student, and three year 10 students in English.
May 2013 — Current Tutor: tutoring begun for two mature age students, in English, typing, report writing and computer skills. The tuition syllabus has been finished for one of the students, and they are far more confident on a computer and with writing reports.
October — November 2013 History Tutor: tutoring a VCE student in Revolutionary history.
October 2013 Sociology and Essay Writing Tutor: for a second year student.
January 2009 — 2013 PhD Candidate: La Trobe University, Sociology. Includes presentations to colleagues. With a scholarship provided due to A-level honours performance.
2008-2013 Tutoring to Undergraduates: brief tutoring for friends in need at Chisholm College, La Trobe University.

Tutoring Approach:

With confidence I can state that I am an adaptable, eager and determined tutor. I know that students instinctively grasp when a tutor cares about the topic and knows the area, so a commitment to sharing knowledge is essential.

I try to move beyond just covering the basics and what is expected to be known, and help the student to discover more, facilitating their overall learning and growth and not just helping them to repeat the right answers. I concentrate on the subject at hand, but try to add more than other teachers could cover in class.
