Information about Rowan - Mount Barker tutor

Personal Description:

Hi, i'm Rowan.

After a tricky time in high school and finishing early to pursue work, I discovered a bit of myself in a Bachelor of Arts degree where my reading, writing, critical thinking and communication skills have been the backbone of consistently good grades. Majoring in Philosophy and studying Politics and International Relations has afforded me not only a sense of direction towards a career but been essential for my overall character development. Supporting other students in their efforts to achieve their academic goals is therefore something I value tremendously.

Tuition Experience:

I engage with several peers across my studied disciplines in a tutoring/mentoring role to their satisfaction. This includes helping them at all stages of their work, from essay planning and research, draft copies and editing/proofreading.

I have completed a semester long Horizon Award program based around the tutoring and mentoring of university students with disability. This has taught me the value of working with students on a personal level to open up communication and build an effective working relationship.

Tutoring Approach:

I think each individual has a slightly different style of learning and so my approach considers this and will be flexible as I try to identify the ways which a student learns best. Essential to learning I believe is motivation and so building a narrative around why we are learning what it is we are being taught will hopefully encourage students to engage with their work effectively.
