Personal Description:
I am a trained and registered teacher in Humanities, English and Arts mainly and have a PhD. I also hold the Working with Vulnerable People card. I have also taught in other areas such as Dance.
I worked in Curriculum Design for senior secondary and tertiary courses for 5 years, so have extensive experience in course design, pedagogy and assessment, especially the design of learning outcomes, criteria and rubrics. This experience has provided in depth skills related to curriculum design, how to teach and how courses will be assessed.
I developed courses in Modern History, Ancient History, Philosophy, Studies of Religion, Psychology and Sociology for Curriculum Services in Tasmania. These are pre-tertiary courses. (Year 11/12). I then worked in the tertiary sector developing curriculum and providing professional development for teachers in course design, delivery and assessment.
I taught for many years prior to this experience and was Faculty Head of Humanities for 6 years (in a Tasmanian college). I have also taught in Queensland for several years and have a good understanding of the Australian Curriculum and each state's approach to senior secondary (pre-tertiary) courses.
I now focus on tutoring to secondary and tertiary students and developing teaching and learning resources for teachers and students which are sold online.
Tuition Experience:
I am experienced in high school, senior secondary, tertiary and VET teaching and have an excellent track record in helping students achieve the best possible outcomes including university entrance. The Humanities and English are my specialty areas. The Arts area includes graphic arts, digital design, fine arts and dance.
I also teach Literacy at a range of levels including graduating teachers who require updating and improving their literacy skills to sit the compulsory LANTITE test.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tuition is rigorous and tailored to the individual. I use a constructivist approach which allows students to identify their own approaches to learning and supports their progress. I provide detailed feedback on how to improve. I am available for face to face tutoring but prefer online delivery.
