Personal Description:

My name is Jamie. I have a Master of Arts in History (thesis mark: 90%), a first class Honours degree in History, and more than twenty years of experience as a lecturer, tutor and learning skills adviser in Australian universities. I am a passionate and committed teacher who believes that a good education is an essential foundation for life. I offer online tutoring for high school and university students in study skills / essay writing, History, Politics, and Social Science. I have a proven record in helping students improve their skills in academic research and writing, exam preparation, comprehension and note-taking, oral presentations, and time management.

Tuition Experience:

I have taught in the disciplines of History and International Studies since 2002. I have given lectures and run tutorials on a diverse range of topics in the fields of European and Australian history, war and society, and human rights. I have also worked as a learning skills adviser in the Humanities and Social Sciences, providing face-to-face and online advice to help students improve their academic skills. I have won several teaching awards and commendations. I am happy to provide copies of my CV, teaching evaluations, and names of referees to interested students.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is based on the fact that students can only study effectively when learning is made meaningful for them. Over the years I have developed a number of strategies to help students connect to study content and become strong independent learners.
