Personal Description:
As a PhD in English and published/awarded scholar and researcher, I pride myself on my ability to push secondary and university students to excel in essay writing, critical argumentation, vocabulary, close reading, literary studies, and academic English - no matter what their field of study. As an experienced editor and proofreader, I can help you structure and write compelling and clear arguments.
I have taught at the high school and university level, and this means I can get secondary students thinking like university students before they set foot inside a uni classroom. I know what gets the high marks in university English essays, and I bring my years of experience in higher education to everyone who takes advantage of my talents.
Tuition Experience:
I have roughly ten years' experience both as a teaching assistant and as a Course Director for undergraduate university English courses. I also have years of experience as a secondary school English tutor, serving both mainstream secondary and International Baccalaureate students from diverse cultural backgrounds. I have also lectured at the Melbourne School of Continental Philosophy, and was invited to give a talk at Swinburne University in May 2018.
I have also worked as a Learning Adviser at RMIT Melbourne with lots of experience mentoring students from disciplines as varied as Nursing, Engineering, Psychology, Business Management, and Fine Arts in all aspects of English.
Tutoring Approach:
Tuition is collaboration; far from simply telling my clients what to do we begin by focusing on your strengths and weaknesses, working together to develop the best plan for achieving a clearly articulated goal. One of my most important goals is to develop in my clients a sense of self-consciousness in their learning - an awareness of why they read and write the things they read and write. In a word, "thinking about your thinking about what you read." Clients who develop this awareness become more invested in and enthusiastic about what they read and learn!
My fees include intersessional support in a customised online environment which I own and administer. Clients have access to scholarly communities as well as a wealth of high-calibre online material geared to their success. I also offer real-time remote or in-person collaboration using Office 365 (Personal or Business), so you can see the suggestions I make as I make them! Please contact me for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: I currently only provide ONLINE tuition. Please get in touch if you have any questions!
