Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Erin and I am currently studying for a Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), specialising in Mathematics. I am passionate about helping students build confidence in their mathematical abilities, and I genuinely enjoy seeing them grow through both success and struggle.

In my own studies, I have maintained strong academic performance. I scored 93 in one of my core university mathematics units, and last semester I achieved two High Distinctions (HDs) and two Distinctions (Ds) in education subjects.

Tuition Experience:

• University-led school visits: Participated in UTS-organised school programs where I taught mathematics to high school students during campus visits and workshops. This gave me insight into different classroom dynamics and allowed me to apply teaching strategies in real-time.
• Volunteering in primary tutoring: As a high school student, I volunteered to tutor primary school children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This experience taught me the importance of patience, compassion, and adapting language for younger learners.
• Peer support and lesson development: During my Master of Teaching program, I’ve developed and delivered lesson plans that focus on student engagement and mathematical reasoning. I’ve also collaborated with peers to co-teach and give feedback, further refining my teaching style.

I am patient, attentive, and open to listening to students’ ideas. My teaching approach is student-centered: I observe how each learner thinks and adapt my questioning to guide their understanding in a way that makes sense to them. I value the thinking process as much as the correct answer, and I always encourage curiosity, not just memorisation.
