Personal Description:

Hi everyone!! My name is Elena, I am a medical scientist working in a diagnostic lab at one of Melbourne's leading research hospitals. I completed my Master of Biomedical Science in 2017 with the University of Melbourne with H1 honours and was selected to receive the Helen R Freeman scholarship as for merit as a woman in the biomedical sciences.

I am available for tutoring online, on campus in Parkville, in the city or in a library near my home in Keilor East

I completed a Bachelor of Science in 2013 and a Graduate Diploma of Science - Genetics in 2015 with a H1 average. I have also interned for 6 months at MCRI (Murdoch Children's Reseach Institute) adjacent to the Royal Children's Hospital.

I have first hand experience applying the theoretical knowledge learned in VCE biology and university lectures to real life medical and experimental scenarios. I can teach you this too!

Tuition Experience:

Scientist mentor at GTAC (Gene Technology Acess Centre) since 2016- 2017. The centre conducts science experiments for high school students, where as mentors we explain the processes and aid in the experiments.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in visual learning and understanding why something is as it is, rather than ro**Contact Detail Removed**arning, something I have found is essential for understanding Biology.

Due to my practical experience I know how the theory is applicable to real life situations. I find that once students understand the importance of the science, their ability to remember it and enjoy learning about it grows.

From Adam (5/5): Elena has been a great resource for first year Biology and in particular, the Genetics component. Recommend weekly sessions but do your homework and or read and listen to your lectures prior to get the most use out of the allocated time. Would not hesitate to recommend or utilise Elena in the future.

She's very adaptable, as from her very first lesson she efficiently shaped her way of teaching to match her students' preferred style of learning, and is open to doing lessons remotely as well as in person. Elena teaches in a very understandable way, which I think has been made possible due to her extensive knowledge of the subject. She also replies to messages very quickly, and is very understanding towards your individual situation. Overall, she is a tutor that I recommend highly.
