Personal Description:

Hi, my name is David. I am a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker who has been living in Australia for 14 years. I am not only fluent in English, but because I primarily speak English at home and at work, I am also very comfortable with the more informal style of everyday language and communication.

I graduated from the University of Queensland with a Master degree in Business, and I also hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and current QLD Blue Card (QLD’s Working with Children Check).

Tuition Experience:

I am currently working at TAFE QLD as an English tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to learn a language is to use the language as much as possible. Many people have found success by travelling to a foreign country and fully embracing the culture and way of life, even if they don’t speak the language beforehand.

In my classes, I aim to offer a taste of this sort of immersive experience, with conversations in simulated scenarios such as ordering food (always a very important topic for Chinese people), but using the conversational everyday language that is easy for both the speaker and listener to understand.

My aim is to offer language classes that will help you achieve your goals. I like to spend our first meeting getting to know each other and chatting about your ideal learning outcomes and learning style, so that I can customise classes to suit you. For example, while teaching I can work through the theory and structure of the language with you, or we can skip the theory altogether and really focus on building your confidence with the spoken language. It’s up to you.
