Personal Description:
Hello,
My name is Miss B and I am the owner and developer of Miss B’s Student Services in Riverside; providing hands on, engaging and individualized programs in academia and music tuition, for learners of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
My education and 15 years experience has provided me with many experiences and opportunities. Throughout my career, I have studied a UTAS Bachelor of Education focusing on Curriculum, Differentiated Instruction, Assessment, Psychology, Outdoor Education and Contemporary Indigenous Australian.
Tuition Experience:
I have an AMUSA Music Diploma in classical piano and classical singing. I can also play the flute, and have privatly tutored students in specialized theory instruction. I have a Diploma of Arts from the University of Southern Queensland, where I specialized in theatre, media and visual art.
I have also completed my Post Graduate Degree in Education and my Masters of Education majoring in behavior management and assessment at the University of Southern Queensland. This is not the end of the list by any means. I also have a certificate III in Children’s Services, a Diploma of Business and Tourism, a Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate from USA and a Graduate Certificate of Education Studies majoring in Early Childhood Education.
Tutoring Approach:
Throughout my extensive study, I have developed a sound philosophy which is essential to my beliefs and personal approach to teaching and learning and is at the heart of what I think, feel and do while working with students. It also encompasses what I want my students to think, feel and do as a result of their time with me. My teaching philosophy involves several modes of operation, however I believe primarily in a sense of engagement, inquiry and developing a way of learning that works for the individual.
I believe education is a journey of co discovery in knowledge, life skills, curriculum and any subject that arises within an ever changing world. I believe in life - long learning and in both students and teachers being responsible for the students’ progress, therefore I am willing to differentiate the curriculum based on students’ abilities and interests. It is my role to facilitate this kind of learning and not only be the instructor, but a designer of quality tasks.
I define learning as a diverse combination of several learning theories; taking ideas from each, to make engaging and meaningful lessons, that provide practical solutions to life situations. I believe learning is more than an acquisition of knowledge. It requires understanding of concepts and parts of concepts on the way to comprehending whole concepts.
This definition of how children develop and how students learn has evolved from experience working with a diverse range of students including; teaching in Europe whilst studying on exchange at Malmo University in Sweden, in Cronulla, London, remote Western Australia and many Tasmanian schools. During my professional career, I have worked with people from high and low socio – economic backgrounds, from different countries, from rural/farming families, remote aboriginal communities and those with learning difficulties and special needs and am confident and comfortable working with anyone willing to learn or needing assistance.
