Information about Adrienne - Drummoyne tutor

Personal Description:

Dear Parents,

My name is Adrienne and I am an experienced Primary Teacher from the UK. In 2018, I gained a First Class Honours degree (the equivalent to High Distinction in Australia) in Primary Education from Kingston University. During my time at university, I also gained a specialism in English. Since then, I have taught at several schools as a class teacher and was appointed the head of the English department at my most recent posting. In January 2023, I moved to Sydney and am very much enjoying the improved weather!

Tuition Experience:

-First Class Honours Degree in Primary Education from Kingston University.
-Teaching and assisting in classrooms since 2014, and Class Teacher from 2018.
-5 years experience teaching children aged between 4 and 11.
-Head of English Department from 2020-2022.
-5 years experience teaching all levels of phonics.
-Proven track-record of success in "closing the gap" in children's attainment.
-Experience and understanding of the long-term affect that COVID lockdown restrictions had on children's learning and attention-span.
-Lots of experience working with children with special educational needs, such as autism, ADHD and slow processing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is vital that children feel secure in order to learn most effectively. Over time, I build on relationships with students so that they can build their confidence to think laterally. Only when children feel safe to make mistakes, can they begin to ask questions, collaborate with others and develop a deep and secure understanding of concepts. As we all know, children have limited attention spans, however I have found this to have worsened since the COVID lockdown restrictions. I tailor my lessons to be person-centred, interest-driven, engaging and hands-on.
