Personal Description:
I am a highly skilled tutor with over 20 years of experience. I have a PhD in quantum physics (UniAdel) and have published extensively. I tutor students in mathematics and physics in a wide variety of courses, from year 11 to postgradua**Contact Detail Removed**vel. I worked at Uni of Adelaide, Melbourne and RMIT. I am a competitive chess player and was champion of Tasmania several times.
Tuition Experience:
In the 1990s, I worked as a tutor, lab demonstrator and lecturer in the Dept. of Physics and Mathematical Physics, at UniAdel and as a one-to-one tutor. In the early 2000s I was a postdoctoral fellow at UniMelb. More recently, I returned to my first love of teaching, as a non-residential tutor at Trinity College (UniMelb) and through First Tutors. In addition, I coach chess to high school students.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to guide students through the problem-solving process, making sure they understand all the concepts along the way. I am patient and creative at finding ways of explaining difficult ideas and calculations. I enjoy helping with some of the more advanced courses such as Quantum Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Graph Theory, Multivariable Calculus, and Functions of a Complex Variable and can often help in areas outside physics/maths where the course is physics-related (e.g. sonography, medical imaging). Note that I charge $80 an hour for second- and third-year courses and $95/hour for after hours (after 7 pm Melbourne time or weekends). All sessions are online only.
I am available for proofreading, in particular of PhD/Masters/Honours theses in physics (rates negotiable).

Adrian was extremely helpful and I am sure I would not have achieved the marks I had without him.
It was obvious from our first few sessions together that he has a wealth of tutoring experience in physics. It is seemingly effortless for him to rapidly switch between topics and to present information in a simplified manner suited to your level.
I will certainly be back if I ever need tuition in physics or math again.
Thanks Adrian!!
Adrian
He was very quick to respond and understand what I needed. He was also efficient at working together and thus he provided me the solution I needed.
I would happily recommend Adrian and also I will use him again in the future!
It’s a great resource that First Tutors have created.
